Shipping: Everything You Need to Know

With Nourysh, your customers will always be required to select a shipping option prior to paying and completing an order. For this reason, it's critical to understand how to set up shipping methods within your shop that work best for you!

This article will cover:

  • How to create your shipping options.

  • How lead time works in Nourysh.

  • How to customize shipping for specific products.

Let's get started!

First, let's find where fulfillments live in Nourysh! To get started, login to your Nourysh admin and on the left-hand side of your navigation panel and select "Shipping".

This will take you to your Shipping home screen, where you can edit, delete, and add shipping methods to your store. Initially, you have the option of national and in-state only shipping activated. To disable or remove any of these options, click on the three dots on the upper right of that box and set to "Inactive" or "Delete".

Next, add your Shipping Details, including your standard processing time, and any details your customers may need to know below.

Finally, be sure to charge for shipping! Remember to account for packaging. And while it's not always necessary to set an order minimum, sometimes it's helpful to only offer shipping when the price of the order makes it worth your time and effort!

What do I charge for shipping?

Nourysh is set up for flat rate shipping. When setting one shipping price for all customers and products, we recommend estimating the average cost per order, or err on the sided of the higher cost. For example, if shipping your

How Processing Time Works in Nourysh

Help your customers know what to expect with turn-around time. How many days after you receive an order can they expect for it to be shipped? This may depend on your schedule or if your products are made-to-order or sold after they are ready.

You are able to set your "processing time" for your shipping option.

Let's look at an example:

For my shop, I have adding in a processing time of 3 days. So after I receive a order, I have 3 days to ship it.

This is how the customer will see this option at checkout:

Customizing Shipping Options

There are some options on how shipping can be handled between different types of products, especially if your products vary greatly in size/weight or your customers are buying for all over the country and the rate depends on their location.

However, remember that you create shipping options available across your entire shop AND they can only choose one. This means that no matter which product a customer is purchasing, all shipping options will be shown at checkout and your customers will need to select the correct one if you are charging different rates. There is a small risk they will select an option that costs less and you either need to have a plan for if that or eat the extra charges. Alternatively, you can set one shipping price for all products and avoid this scenario.

One option is to set shipping rates based on location from you. For example if you are on the East coast, you could have an option based on time zones, states, etc. The further away, the higher the shipping charge.

Or you can set fulfillment based on product, when the size/weight is a big factor.

Take advantage of the "description box to fully explain to your customer how to choose the right option.

For example, I sell both earrings and custom wall hangings. The wall hangings cost a lot more than earrings to ship. So for a customer who buys a wall hanging, I want to charge them more for shipping (but not overcharge someone buying earrings). Here is what that might look like for a customer at check out:

(If they also want to buy earrings, they will only use the wall hanging shipping option because that wont really add to my shipping cost—remember customer can only pick one shipping option.)

Creating a New Shipping Option in Nourysh

Additional Shipping Info

  • We highly recommend connecting with a cost savings shipping platform, such as Shippo, Pirateship, or ShipStation. You will save significantly in your shipping costs and have access to multiple carriers and print the shipping labels from home. You can create a free account, enter in shipping info and get label cost and ship time estimates before you actually buy the label.
  • Do not forget to include the cost of packaging in your products or shipping costs. Every box, insert, and bit of packing material costs you money. Don't lose money on packaging.
